Like many of you, idol groups are our weakness here at enewsWorld, but Shinhwa and a few of our staff members go way back. And when we say way back, we mean way back.

Although we hate to be reminded of how old we are, many of us grew up listening to Shinhwa. And looking forward to Shinhwa’s 15th anniversary on March 24, we’re also reminded of how remarkable it is that Shinhwa is still going strong after all these years.
So, in honor of Shinhwa turning 15 years old, we at enewsWorld are sharing a few of our all-time favorite songs and why they’re so dear to us.

Haegyulsa (The Solver), Erika Kim, Translator
I actually knew this song well enough to sing along to it, but I didn′t know it was a Shinhwa song until I became a fan, which was three years after the song was released. I thought it was a Seo Taiji and Boys song for some reason, so imagine my shock when I heard this song on Shinhwa’s best compilation My Choice album!
Anyways, I like this song for its lyrics, (which, sadly, still seem to hold true although it has been 15 years since it was released), its piano hook and electric guitar and, of course, for it being the song that started Shinhwa′s career.
The house and rock rearrangements of the song from Shinhwa′s 10th and 14th anniversary concerts haven′t really helped me escape from it either. They just fit my taste too much for me to move on.

As a tween listening to T.O.P, the song made me ask my young self a lot of big questions.
For example, do I want to see the light or stand alone? What is the way of M.I.L and is it the answer to life, the universe and everything? But most importantly, what could have caused Jun Jin to want to put his ‘heart and soul into a bag and wait for the train car that only he can ride?’ (these are actual lyrics from the song).
Simply put, this song pretty much blew my young mind.
And as an adult, it still blows my mind every time I listen to it. But now, I can say with confidence that I have since seen the light that is T.O.P or the twinkling of paradise.

I listened to this on my boom box when I was a kid, and since I′m a Korean school dropout, I couldn′t follow any of the Korean at the time.
So instead, I memorized the English.

Brand New, Jin Chun Lan, Editor
Although I really like the song, I especially love the music video because Andy, whom I liked at the time, gets about 20 seconds of screen time. It’s really hard to see Andy’s face for that long in other songs. Not exaggerating, I think I’ve watched the music video about a hundred times. I was kind of crazy about Shinhwa then.
You also see each of the members’ personalities in the music video. Min Woo always looks laidback when he’s singing and dancing. Dong Wan is totally straight-laced. When he dances and sings, he doesn’t crack a smile (He tries really hard in everything haha). Hye Sung is jjang at singing and acts like he’s cool. Eric looks cool no matter what he does. And, well, Jun Jin…goes overboard (his solo dance is daebak).
Venus, Angelina Foss, Social Media Manager
To be honest, I didn’t know a lot about Shinhwa until they had their grand comeback with Venus.
All I knew was that they were legends of K-POP and that they are the longest existing K-POP group. As I didn’t grow up in Korea and got into K-POP right when Shinhwa took their long break, I wasn’t one of the lucky ones who enjoyed them before.
But once I started listening to Venus, it got me to look into more of their songs, and shortly after that, I discovered how extremely funny these men are. I was happy to see that they stuck together for such a long time and it gave me hope that one day all of our young idol groups would follow in Shinhwa’s steps.
Venus was a great comeback song that had a mix of their old sound, new and a great choreography that made us all a little jealous of the female dancers.
On the Road, Grace Hong, Writer
Returning from a four year hiatus, Shinhwa received a lot of prejudice for being an ‘old’ idol group, but it didn’t seem to bother the group at all as all it needed was the fans that stuck by its side through thick and thin since 1998.
On the Road pretty much sums up the entire 14 – now 15 – years shared by Shinhwa and its official fan club Shinhwa Changjo (SHCJ). Each line in the song triggers a memory from all those crazy years Shinhwa spent bickering and fighting with the fans, all the while holding an umbrella for them on a rainy day.
Whether you’re a rookie or 15-year veterans, every idol group has that one special song dedicated to its fans, and On the Road is Shinhwa’s serenade to the SHCJ members, who have patiently counted down the days until Shinhwa’s return.
